Erica Lanter
director of ballet and primary
Erica Lanter was born and raised in Billings, MT. She began dancing at the age of 6 at the School of Classical Ballet and found a love that would last a lifetime.
At age 13, Erica began studying at prestigious ballet schools on scholarship including; Summer Dance Lab in Walla Walla, Washington, Pacific Northwest Ballet School in Seattle Washington, Royal Winnipeg Ballet in Winnipeg, Canada, and Hartford School of Ballet in Hartford, Connecticut.
In 1992, Erica was crowned Miss Montana and competed in the Miss America Pageant performing a pointe variation from Carmen. She then attended the University of Utah and danced in the ballet program for 2 years before deciding to trade in her pointe shoes for a yoga mat. She graduated in 1997 with a B.S. in Political Science and a B.S. in Communications.
Erica returned to Billings as a producer and anchor of CBS affiliate KTVQ morning news program. She went on to become the Public Relations Specialist at Billings Clinic, handling internal communication and media relations on behalf of the hospital system.
Her break from dance didn’t last long. In 1999, she returned to the studio and her love for ballet became a passion for teaching.
Last spring, Erica became certified in PBT, Progressing Ballet Technique, an innovative program to train dancers with an in-depth understanding of muscle memory and technique for classical ballet. Erica plans to bring her current training and strengths along with continued training to create a program that offers the best possible instruction in classical ballet for community youth through Movement Montana Arts Academy.
